HESTER BATEMAN. A George III "One Go" Wine Label made in London circa 1780 by Hester Bateman.

£475

During the late 18th century a number of small decanters were produced called "One Go's", these being of the size which would hold one or two glasses of the respective drink inside, which could be taken to bed at night, to keep the individual going in the late hours.   These little decanters required labels, so miniature labels were produced to go on these miniature decanters.  These seldom appear by any silversmith, especially Hester Bateman.  This is shown on the attached images and is modelled in the plain crescent form and is engraved for MADEIRA.  It is in quite excellent condition and is well marked on the reverse with a clear HB maker's mark dating it to circa 1780.

Length: 0.9 inches.

Width: 1 inch.
