The Sweetmeat Basket stands on an oval foot which is decorated with a beaded band and which is pierced with a band of stylised arrow head motifs. The rim of the main body, and the swing handle, are also decorated with beading and the sides of the main body are pierced with horizontal pails and roundels interspersed with swirling bands of blue bell drop motifs. In addition, the bowl of the main body is engraved with a pretty band of prick dot designs. The basket is fully marked on the exterior of the main body. This piercing is an unusual design from the Bateman workshops.
