This very rare piece has a semi circular form, with reeded border, and an arched handle for hanging up, which is unusually decorated with a Rococo raying shell, flanked by acanthus foliage. The hinged bottom opens to reveal the space where the nutmegs would have been kept. The hinged base is engraved with a contemporary Crest issuing from the coronet of a Viscount. The reverse is also engraved with "Rappelle Toi - Remember Thee". The steel grater is pierced with circular bands of roundels. This piece is very well marked and in excellent condition. As you will appreciate, it would have been the grandest houses who would have had a silver nutmeg grater in their kitchen.
