Goblets were not made in great quantities in the Bateman workshops and they seldom appear on the market.  This is only the second we have offered over the years.  This piece stands on a square platform base and the circular pedetal foot is decorated with a beaded band.  The vase shaped main body also displays a beaded band where it meets the foot and the interior displays deep original gilding, which would protect the silver.  This piece is modelled in a restrained Classical design and is in excellent condition.  It well marked in the foot including the incuse Duty Mark, where the King's head is seen in a cut cornered punch.  This was only seen in 1784 and 1785.
