The Tureens each stand on a square foot which rises to an oval pedestal, which is decorated with beading. The Boat shaped main body has a beaded rim and lower wide band of flat fluting. The upper section displays a plain girdle and a slender band of flat fluted arch work. The pull off, stepped, covers are decorated with beading and have an upper domed section, which terminates in a cast Neo-Classical urn finial. Each Tureen has two plain loop side handles and they are fully marked in the foot and with the makers mark and sterling mark on the cover. The Tureens have a fine colour and are in excellent condition.

This is a most unusual design from this period and we have only ever seen it bearing the mark of Wakelin and Taylor, so it may well have been a design which was produced exclusively in their workshops. These silversmiths enjoyed the patronage of King George III and the Royal Family.
