An extremely rare pair of George III Gentlemans Shoe Buckles made in London circa 1775 by George Burrows I.

The Buckles are of arched form and the openwork frames are unusually chased with roundels and feathery scrolls. The frames are backed by solid silver chapes, which is a most unusual feature as most are made of steel at this date. The quality of these buckles is outstanding and they are very well marked on all the sections on the reverse. They are also engraved with the contemporary initials R.M. It was the grandest individuals who had silver buckles on their shoes and due to their size, we conclude that they were made for a gentleman.
