This very rare piece is of drum form, with a corded rim and base.  The sides are beautifully pierced with Neo Gothic designs and also display Neo Classical raised garlands, tied with ribbons and displaying plain oval medallions.  This piece has a bifurcated onslow pattern handle and blue glass liner.  This piece is in excellent condition and is fully marked on the base.  The Piggin also has an associated Cream Ladle, with feather edge border, made in London circa 1772.  Piggins were early containers for serving cream, which were first made in Ireland.   A pierced example is illustrated in "Irish Georgian Silver" by Douglas Bennett, however examples are extremely rare, especially from the Georgian period.

Thomas Nash was an exceptional silversmith who specialised in pierced items, such as wine coasters, serving slices and mustard pots.  He had workshops at 2, Water Lane, Fleet Street, when this piece was made.

Height to the top of the handle:  4.5 inches.

Height to the rim: 2.4 inches.

Base Diameter: 2.9 inches.

Length of the ladle: 4.6 inches.

Weight: 6oz.
