This very rare piece is finely modelled in the "Boat" shaped form. Thropp & Taylor often modelled their snuff boxes in unusual boat and skiff forms, all beautifully engraved. This piece is no exception as the cover is finely engraved with a huntsman and horse and pack of hounds, all in a detailed rural landscape. The engraving has been executed by a very skilled hand. The sides are decorated with wavy prick dot bands and the base displays a central floral sprig surrounded by prick dot frames. The base is also engraved with two sets of contemporary script initials which denotes that it was most probably a gift when it was originally made in 1811. The interior displays very fine gilding and crisp hallmarks. As intimated, boxes by this fine partnership seldom appear on the market and this is a quite excellent, and unusual, example from their workshops.
