An exceptionally fine & unusual George III Neo Classical Seven Bottle Cruet, of large size, made in London in 1780 by Robert Hennell.

This very unusual Cruet Stand is "Boat" shaped in form and stands on four cast beaded anthemion feet. The sides of the main body are pierced with vitruvian scrolls, vertical arched pails and urns in ovals. Each end is beautifully pierced and engraved with a Neo Classical urn, surrounded by scroll work, with stylised Prince of Wales feathers motifs above. The seven cages are decorated with beading and are held in place by Classical column supports. The design of the base is most unusual, the first time we have seen such a piece from the Hennell workshops. The Cruet contains seven silver mounted bottles, with hinged oil and vinegar containers, as well as various casters, with pierced and engraved silver pull-off covers. The silver bottle mounts are decorated with beading, bright cutting and Classical engraving, including urns and floral swags. The quality of design and production is quite outstanding.
