The Goblets are silver gilt and stand on a circular pedestal foot decorated with linear and prick dot bands, in addition to arrow head motifs on a scratch engraved ground. The main body is modelled in a Classical vase shaped form and is beautifully engraved with vertical panels displaying floral designs, as well as plain panels, with linear engraved divisions. The rim is decorated with a wide frieze of flower heads and scrolls. Each piece is in excellent condition, with crisp marks in the foot. The condition can be attributed to them still possessing their original, brass bound, fitted wooden case. The decorative design of these pieces is most unusual and we suspect that they may have been made to celebrate a marriage. Robert Sharp was an exceptional silversmith, who was employed by the Prince of Wales, later King George IV, when he was furnishing his Carlton House residence on the Mall.
Weight: 20 oz the pair.
Height: 6.6 inches.
Diameter at the rim: 3.45 inches.
