An exceptional and very unusual George III Drinking Goblet made in London in 1794 by John Wakelin & Robert Garrard I.

The Goblet stands on a circular pedestal foot which is decorated with a band of acanthus leaves. The slender and elegant bowl is of the Classical vase shape and is unusually decorated with a band of bat wing fluting. The upper section displays a band of engraved waves and flower heads, below a crossed branch cartouche containing a set of contemporary script initials. The interior displays original gilding of the finest quality and the foot shows a crisp set of hallmarks. This is one of the finest Goblets, of very unusual design, we have offered. John Wakelin appears in the Jewel Office accounts, in 1797, as Goldsmith & Jeweller to King George III.
