The Basket is of an unusual, but typically Aberdeen, form and stands on an oval pedestal foot decorated with a pretty outer band of prick dot and bright cut engraving. The main body is modelled in the helmet style, with an everted rim, and is engraved in the Neo-Classical manner with floral garlands tied with ribbons, medallions and two vacant bright cut cartouches. The everted rim and arched swing handle are also unusually engraved with the attractive designs seen on the foot. The basket is of a most unusual design and is in excellent condition, with crisp marks in the foot. It is rare to find larger items of silver from Aberdeen, especially by this maker who specialised in the production of flatware.
