These exceptional pieces are finely modelled as nautilus shells and display a crisp textured surface and gilded interiors.  They both stand on a flared shell detail foot decorated with a band of raying flower heads.  Each is in outstanding condition and both are very well marked.  They come with two associated spoons, the stems formed as entwined sea monsters and the shell bowls, have palely gilded interiors.  Both are also well marked and were made in London in 1872 by Daniel & Charles Houle. Joseph Angel, and his nephew John, produced exceptional pieces in terms of both design and production from workshops at 55, Compton Street, Clerkenwell.  This is clearly seen with these superior Salt Cellars.
