The Wine Coasters have dipping rims and are very unusually modelled as coronets.  The sides are pierced with beautiful trailing scrolls and stylised flowerheads and the base displays a raised horizontal band of laurel and berry design, which is repeated on the rim.  The front displays a circular cartouche engraved with a contemporary Crest, issuing from a Ducal coronet.  The coasters have fully marked silver bases, which were made for the top end of the market, instead of having the more unusual wooden bases.  The Coasters are in excellent condition and are well marked on the bases and with the maker's mark and sterling mark in the piercing.  The maker's mark is illustrated in A.G. Grimwade's "London Goldsmith's, Their Marks and Lives 1697-1837", mark 3845.
