This very rare piece stands on a square pedestal platform base which is decorated with a band of acanthus spears and stands on four bun feet. The vase shaped body displays an upper frieze of acanthus spears enclosed by two beaded bands and raised drapery swags, tied with rings and tassels. The lower section of the main body is decorated with acanthus leaves. The stepped, pull off, cover terminates in a stylised urn finial, with an acathus platform below. This vase is in excellent condition and is very well marked on the side of the main body and on the sleeve of the cover. Tea vases decorated in this high Neo-Classical manner are rare, however Sheffield had a reputation, at this date, for producing innovative designs in the Neo Classical style. The neck of the vase is engraved with a double headed eagle Crest issuing from a Ducal Coronet.
