The Pepper stands on a circular pedestal foot decorated with a band of foliate spears. The main body displays a lower band of bold lobing beneath a very unusual frieze of fruiting vines interspersed with pretty flower heads and leopard's head masks. The incuse neck rises to an everted rim, also decorated with the same foliate spears as seen on the foot. The pull-off cover is pierced with linear bands, and roundels, and terminates in a leaf capped ball finial. The interior is finely gilded and this piece is in excellent condition. The base displays a crisp set of hallmarks and the rim of the cover is marked with the maker's mark, date letter and sterling mark. This is an unusal design for a Pepper, certainly influenced by the designs of Paul Storr.
