This very fine quality Snuff Box has a navette shaped form, with deep sides. Both the sides and base are engraved with pretty bright cut borders. The box displays a flush hinged cover decorated with a further crisp outer bright cut border and oval bead cartouche containing a contemporary Crest, with script initials below. The hinge is concealed with a herring bone engraved band, below a second set of contemporary script initials, most probably denoting the giver of the box. The Crest is that of Campbell, Cruickshank or Cunningham. The interior displays exceptional gilding and the inside of the cover displays a full set of hallmarks including the Incuse Duty Mark where the King;s Head is shown in a cut cornered punch. This was only seen in 1784 and 1785. The box is in quite exceptional condition.
