A rare George III "hORSESHOE" vINAIGRETTE MADE IN bIRMINGHAM cIRCA 1810 BY cOCKS & bETTRIDGE.

The Vinaigrette is modelled in the rare horseshoe form and is engraved on the cover with a band of horseshoe motifs on a prick dot ground. The centre displays an oval vacant cartouche and the base displays a central raying flower head. The interior is finely gilded and displays a very rare dolphin grille, with detailed shell and piercing to simulate a fisherman's net. This is only the second time we have seen this grille, A viniagrette of identical form, with different engraving, is shown in "Silver Boxes" by Eric Delieb on page 101. The Vinaigrette is by the same maker's Cocks & Bettridge.
