A rare George III Drum Tea Caddy made in London in 1773 by Andrew Fogelberg.

The Tea Caddy is of the rare Drum form which was produced for a short period during the 1770s before the advent of the oval form. The main body is beautifully engraved with an upper and lower band of bright cut and scratch engraved designs including entwined ovals and roundels. This border is again repeated around the edge of the cover. The hinge of the cover is nicely concealed and this piece displays a beautiful cast finial modelled in the form of a Tea Plant. The front of the Caddy is engraved with a vacant bright cut oval cartouche, with crossed branches below and tied ribbons above. The Caddy is in quite excellent condition and is fully marked on the base and with the makers mark and sterling mark on the cover.
Andrew Fogelberg was of Swedish descent and his work is of outstanding quality. He was, of course, Master of the greatest British silversmith of the 19th century, this being Paul Storr.
