The piece pictured is an extremely rare George III Bacon/Asparagus Dish, which is a rare piece to find by any silversmith working during this period.  This piece was made in London in 1788 by Robert Hennell and displays a broad rectangular form with raised rim decorated with applied reeding.  The shaped, arched, handles are also decorated with reeding and the centre is engraved with an unusual contemporray Crest, issuing from the Coronet of a Duke.  This piece is in quite excellent condition and is very well marked on the reverse.

Apart from Teapot stands, Robert Hennell did not make trays and dishes, therefore this is a particularly rare piece to find from his workshops.  Although termed bacon and asparagus dishes, they can be used for serving a variety of things on the dining table.
