Snuffer Trays from Ireland are extremely rare and this example stands on four cast scroll feet.  The main body has a waisted form and corded rim.  The flying scroll handle is decorated with leaf capping and the centre is engraved with a contemporary Crest.  The reverse is very well marked and is engraved with its original scratch weight.  The Scissors were made in 1763 by the specialist sprung tong maker John Buckett.  The snuffing box is engraved with scrolls, foliate sprays and the same contemporary Crest as seen on the tray.  The arms and finger grips are decorated with linear scrolls and the scissors are very well marked inside the snuffing box.  The Crest is that as used by the Irwin family of County Fermanagah.  A James Irwin is recorded as being born there and dying in Virginia in 1811.  A member of the family was still there in 1905.  Both pieces are in excellent condition and are very well marked.
