This piece has two side handles, also decorated with gadrooning and shells, which are attached to the main body with detailed leaf mouldings. The front of the main body is engraved with a contemporary Crest. The Butter Boat is in quite excellent condition and shows the hammer marks from when it was raised, which is always a nice original feature to see. The inside of the foot displays a crisp set of hallmarks, including the distinctive Gothic maker's mark of John Swift. This piece also comes with a later made glass liner. This piece lends itself to many uses on the table such as serving gravy, sauces, cream, bread sauce etc.
