The Tongs are of a unique magnificent design and are cast and in sections and then assembled together. They display two large grips modelled as scallop shells and the arms display unusual raised flowerhead, Rococo shell and foliate motif decoration. The arched top is decorated with a thread edge. It is our opinion that these tongs were a unique commission, which were made for a discerning client who expected their silver to be made in the higher grade of Britannia silver. They were most probably used to serve large pieces of meat or chops, potatoes snf other vegetables. They are without doubt, the finest serving item we have offered over the years. They are in excellent condition and are of a very heavy weight.
