The Cup stands on a circular spreading foot and the bell shaped body has an everted rim and an applied girdle around the upper section. The two side scroll handles are decorated with leaf capping and the front is engraved with an unusual contemporary Armorial surrounded by a shell and foliate spray cartouche. This piece is of an exceptional weight and colour and is very well marked in the foot. The Arms are those of the ancient family of Hastings, as used by the Earls of Huntington. John Hugh Le Sage was of Huguenot descent and was apprentice to Louis Cuney. He held the position of Goldsmith to George II.
