An extremely rare George II side handled Sauceboat made by Pentecost Symons of Plymouth and assayed in Exeter in 1733.

The Sauceboat stands on a circular spreading foot decorated with reeding. The main body is plain in design and has a large circular baluster bowl which rises to an everted rim. This piece has a cast, capped, scroll side handle and "sparrow" beak pouring spout, with pendant drop beneath. This piece is in quite excellent condition and displays an excellent set of marks in the foot. Pentecost Symons was a prolific silversmith working in Plymouth. His first Britannia Standard mark was entered in 1706 and he was taking on apprentices in 1714. He became a Freeman of Plymouth in 1722 and died circa 1757.
