The Mug has a slightly tapering form, with a tucked in base and reeded spreading circular foot. This example has an everted rim and scroll handle. The front of the main body is engraved with a contemporary Armorial surrounded by a foliate scroll and strapwork cartouche. The Mug is of an excellent gauge and colour and is very well marked in the foot. The base is also engraved with the contemporary initials AH. The Arms are those of the Hill family who had seats at Hillstope, co. Cornwall, Bridgewater, co. Somerset and Denham Place, Co. Buckinghamshire. Richard Bayley was a specialist Mug maker and this is a fine example to come from his workshops.
