A very fine George I Drinking Mug made in London in 1723 by George Boothby.

The Mug stands on a cast and applied reeded foot and the Can shaped main body has a tucked in base, slightly tapering sides and everted rim. The plain scroll handle is attached to the main body with an oval disc moulding. The front of the main body is engraved with a contemporary Armorial, with Crest above, surrounded by a beautiful Rococo cartouche of scrolls, shells and trellis work. The mug is fully marked on the base and is also engraved with the contemporary initials TH. The Arms and Crest are those of the Hill family. George Boothby has a distinctive mark of GB with a bird above.
