The Salver stands on four unusual, and substantial, scroll feet and is modelled in the very scarce square design with rounded corners and a raised stepped rim. This piece is engraved in the centre with a contemporary Armorial, surrounded by an architectural cartouche of foliate scrolls, strap work and brick work. The reverse displays a very crisp set of hallmarks and also a centre measuring point, which is always a desirable characteristic of a fine silversmith, in that he has taken the time to meaure things out accurately. This piece is in quite excellent condition, has a good colour and quite "outstanding" weight. John Swift's first mark was entered in 1728, therefore this represents an early example of his work.
Length & Width: 7 inches, 17.5 cm.
Weight: 14oz.
