£1,950

The Box is circular in form and plain in design with a "pull-off" cover.  The cover is finely engraved with a tulip motif and the base with the initials IB, these being of the original owner during this early period.  It is most unusual to find this type of box engraved with a tulip.  The influence for this being Dutch, as Charles II was in exile there after his father was executed by Oliver Cromwell.  It is also very unusual to find such boxes with a full set of hallmarks at this date, as they are usually unmarked or just bear a maker's mark.  The maker's mark of RS, in a heart shaped punch, with a mullet below is illustrated in "Jackson's Silver and Gold Marks" page 140 and a copy is attached.

This piece is in excellent condition, is fully marked in the base and with the sterling mark on the underside of the cover.

Height: 0.75 inches.

Diameter: 1.5 inches.
