The Mug stands on a cast and applied tucked in foot and the slightly tapering sides rise to an everted rim. This piece has a plain scroll handle and the front of the main body is engraved with a beautiful contemporary cipher. The Mug is very well marked in the foot, has a very good colour and is of a good gauge and weight. Nelmes surviving work shows him to have developed one of the largest establishments by the end of the century, with considerable output of municipal pieces such as maces, as well as toilet services and other large pieces. His work certainly shows the characteristics of the Huguenot influence.
