This exceptionally rare George III Silver Wine Label is of broad rectangular form with a raised gadrooned border, acanthus leaves in the corners and anthemion shells in the middle of each side. This piece is engraved with the Sovereign's Crown above and the Prince of Wales's Crest and Motto below. The centre of the label is incised with SHERRY. This label is very well marked on the reverse and is one from a set of forty fibe labels made by Storr for the Royal households in 1812. Finding one with the Prince of Wales Feathers is very rare and it was almost certainly made for his London residence, Carlton House, situated on The Mall near Buckingham Palace.
These labels are discussed in "Wine Labels 1730-2003" by John Salter, pages 100 and 101 and an Article by Andrew Gilmour for the Wine Label Circle Journal VO7 no05, June 1983. This piece is highly desirable, as labels from these Royal sets seldom turn up on the market..
