This exceptionally fine shell dish is modelled as a scallop shell with a scroll carrying handle. This very rare piece stands on three beautifully detailed, crisp, cast dolphins, displaying engraved scalework and detailed tails attached to the bottom of the shell. The top of the shell is marked with RN, most probably the maker's mark of Robert Naughton of Inverness. Inverness silver is extremely rare and it is most unusual to find items of silver hollow ware coming from this Scottish Provincial centre.
