This very rare piece is of the drum form with a gadrooned rim. The sides are beautifully pierced with swirling scrolls and Classical blue bell garlands. The front displays an oval disc cartouche engraved with a contemporary Crest. The unusual double arch handle is also pierced with scroll work and the Piggin has a blue glass liner. The base is marked with CH, three times for Christopher Haines. These items were first produced in Ireland and termed Piggins, a pierced example is illustrated in Irish Georgian Silver by Douglas Bennett. Georgian examples are exceptionally rare.
