The Wine Label is cast and is one of the rarest Robert Gray designs. This piece is cast and displays an unusual upper cast shaped scroll section decorated with vines and grapes below an anthemion motif. The lower section is narrow rectangular in form with cut corners and a double thread edge. The face is engraved for PORT, in Grays typical Gothic lettering. This style was also peculiar to Robert Grays workshops and an identical example, also engraved for PORT, is shown on page 257 of Wine Labels 1730-2003. A rare fine quality piece.
