BATEMAN FAMILY. A rare George III Caddy Spoon made in London in 1798 by Peter & Ann Bateman

Peter & Ann Bateman Caddy Spoons are much rarer than those made by Hester Bateman and this example is modelled in a very unusual design with a beaded band running up the centre of the shell bowl. The curved handle is decorated with bright cut floral sprays and prick dot borders. The top displays a tear drop shaped cartouche containing a script engraved contemporary initial "A". The spoon is in quite excellent condition and is very well marked on the reverse of the handle. Length: 3.5 inches, 8.75 cm.
Width of the bowl: 1.6 inches, 4 cm.
