The forks are modelled in the fiddle and thread pattern, are double struck, and each is of a very good gauge of silver. The top of each stem is engraved with the Royal Crest, Motto and Sovereigns Crown as used by King George III & Queen Charlotte and the reverse is engraved with Vice Chamberlain 1804. These were obviously given to Lord John Thynn, future 3rd Baron Carteret, who was made Vice Chamberlain of the Royal Household in 1804. He held this post at Court until 1812 and was the third son of the 1st Marquess of Bath, of Longleat House and Lady Elizabeth, daughter of William Bentinck, 2nd Duke of Portland. These forks are from the same set as six tableforks which were sold earlier in the year on this website.
