The Snuff Box is broad rectangular in form, with an unusual stepped cover.  The exterior is engraved, all over, with crisp engine turned designs and plain linear borders.  The interior is finely gilded and very well marked and the weight and gauge of the box is exceptional.  The partnerships of Phipps & Robinson were considered to be the finest box makers in London at this date and this box is a very fine example of their work.
