An extremely rare silver Gilt Kettle Drum Bowl made in Birmingham in 1878 by Frederick Elkington.

The Bowl is silver gilt and is modelled as a Kettle Drum. The round bowl is applied with ropework wirework, simulating tension rods. The front of the main body is engraved with a contemporary double griffins head Crest. The bowl stands on three detailed crossed timpani drumsticks, raised on a triform base with three ball feet. This piece is very well marked and stemped with the serial number 236. The Crest is that of Pope of The Middle Temple. This is most probably that of Samuel Pope (1826-1901) who received an award from the Council of Legal Education in 1857. He was Treasurer of the Middle Temple in 1889.
