These pieces are cast and are beautifully modelled as detailed raying shells, with textured tips to the gilded interior.  The bases, however, are a work of art and stand on three cast winkle shells and the exterior is beautifully textured , to simulate the outside of the shell.  Each piece is well marked and is in excellent condition.  This is the first time we have seen this particular design, such are their rarity.  The quality of design and production is exceptional, however this is no surprise when one considers that Edward Ker Reid was part of the Ker Reid dynasty of silversmiths, who had a  strong reputation for quality pieces.  He was apprenticed to his father and set up on his own with workshops in Chancery Lane, when these shells were made.
