The rattle has a six sided shaft and baluster central section with six original pear shaped bells. The whistle is most unusually modelled with six sides and terminates in a very unusual ball end engraved with acanthus spears. The main shaft, and bells, are engraved with exceptionally finely executed designs, which Rawlings and Summers were famous for, both on rattles and snuff boxes. The designs include beautiful floral sprays and garlands, as well as Gothic designs and scrolls on a scratch engraved ground, trellis work and Rococo raying shells. This piece has its original coral and circular suspensory ring. The rattle is in excellent, crisp, condition and is fully marked in the engraving near to the coral and with the sterling mark on the suspensory ring. This partnerships had prestigious premises at 10, Great Marlborough Street, Regent Street, when this piece was made.

Length: 5 inches.
