The Goblet is of a most unusual design and stands on a square, stepped pedestal base. The vase shaped main body is decorated, at the base, with a band of lobing and the interior is finely gilded. The front of Goblet is engraved, to the highest standard, with a greyhound with banner above and the reverse with a beautiful detailed Hare Coursing scene. The Goblet is of a most unusual design and is of exceptional quality. The base displays a good set of hallmarks. Hare Coursing was fashionable amongst the Aristocracy and Gentry during this period and meetings were held particularly on the flatlands of the Vale of York and the East Riding. This piece was obviously meant to be given as a prize at such a meeting.
