The Basket stands on a rectangular applied foot. The main body is also rectangular in form and displays a gadrooned rim interspersed with Rococo single and double shells flanked by acanthus foliage. The bowl of the main body is also very unusually decorated with converging fluted bands and the central plain panel is engraved with a contemporary lion rampant Crest, crowned with a Ducal Coronet. The swing handle is decorated, on the sides, with gadrooning and displays a cast and applied scroll and shell cartouche in the centre of the handle. This piece is very well marked on the underside of the main body, and with the sterling mark and duty mark on the handle. The quality of design and production of this piece, and very good weight, is what one would expect from the workshops of Paul Storr. As well as being a useful item in the dining room, it is a beautiful decorative item in its own right.
