This very interesting Jug stands on a circular pedestal foot decorated with lobing, on a matted ground, which is also pierced with unusual vertical pails.  The vase shaped main body is also decorated with a wide lower band of lobing.  The upper section displays a frieze of wave motifs containing flower heads, all on a matted ground.  The top section rises to an egg and dart border and hinged cover decorated with a lobed dome and a very unusual, and finely detailed, oak leaf and acorn finial.  The "sparrow beak" spout has an acanthus drop at the bottom and the top of the spout is beautifully decorated with a Rococo shell, scroll and acanthus drop at the bottom and the top of the spout is beautifully decorated with a Rococo shell scroll and anthemion panel, also on a matted ground.  The moulding, where the handle is attached at the top, displays a beautifully detailed caryatid head moulding, with platted hair under the chin, on an acanthus leaf base. This was a unique characteristic of Boileau's design and is rather regarded as a signature to one of his pieces.  The bottom handle moulding is modelled as a serpent with feather surround.  The side displays a full set of marks and the base is engraved with the Royal Retailers mark of Rundell, Bridge & Rundell, also the Crown Jewellers - "Rundell, Bridge et Rundell Aurifices Regis et Principis Wallae Regentis Britannias".  The cover is marked with the maker's mark, sterling mark and date letter and the finial with the maker's mark and sterling mark.  The Jug is in excellent, crisp, condition.
