The Sauce Tureens stand on an oval stepped cast foot decorated with beading. The Boat shaped main bodies have a beaded rim and the reeded loop handles are attached to the main body with acanthus leaf mouldings. The domed pull off covers terminate in a Classical beaded urn finial and are engraved with a contemporary stag Crest. The front of the main body is engraved with a shield shaped Armorial, surrounded by an oval bright cut herring bone cartouche. The Tureens are in excellent condition, are of a very good weight and are fully marked on the foot and with the makers mark and sterling mark on the covers.

The Armorial and Crest are those of the Pearson family of County Chester. Smith and Sharp worked on commissions for George III and George IV, when Prince of Wales.
