The Dish has a shaped circular form, the sides decorated with twenty one raised ribs.  The rim displays seven applied raying shells and reeded scrolls,  The Dish is also centred by a beautiful military cartouche, incorporating a canon, drums, flags and spears, used on pieces belonging to prominent military officers.  This piece is well marked on the reverse and has an excellent colour.  This is a very rare design of dish and its quality is outstanding.  A set of three dessert dishes of this design by Paul De Lamerie are illustrated in "Paul De Lamerie.  The Work of England's Master Silversmith (1688-1751).  An exhibition of his work, Goldsmith's Hall, 1990, page 124.  The image is shown and these are in the collection of the Corporation of London.  John Huge Le Sage was apprenticed to Louis Cuny and had workshops in Suffolk Street near Ye Haymarket when this piece was made.  He was subordinate Goldsmith to King George II, which is why his mark is surmounted by the Sovereign's crown.
