The Inkstand has four unusual leaf capped claw and ball feet and a navette shaped stand with beaded edge and ends pierced and engraved with pretty scroll designs. The two circular cages are decorated with pierced vertical pails and beading. This example also, unusually, displays three beaded tubular containers for quills and a circular dish, and cover, for wax wafers. The silver mounted Bristol Blue bottles are finely pierced and display beaded borders.  The underside shows an array of skewers and bolts which hold the containers in place.  The base is also engraved with the contemporary inscription " L'Amour en fait le prix - Love pays the price".  These Inkstands are particularly rare and were often used for travelling or for a Lady at her writing desk.  They are nearly always made by Samuel Meriton and are of the finest quality in both design and production.
