A very rare George III 22CT GOLD SNUFF SPOON MADE IN LONDON IN 1793 BY SAMUEL GLOVER

Sold

This exceptionally rare piece is modelled in the Old English Pattern and would have been used to spoon snuff out from the larger gold boxes.  The spoon is of a good gauge and slender design, displaying a raised rat tail on the reverse of the bowl.  This piece is a very rare survivor in excellent condition, with very crisp hallmarks.  Samuel Glover is registered as a Gold worker at this date and interestingly has chosen to engrave his maker's mark rather than stamp it.  This is referred to an an "incuse" maker's mark.  This is only the second gold snuff spoon we have seen over the years.

Length: 3.3 inches, 8.25 cm
