The Tray stands on four cast panel feet which have a reed and scroll border. The raised rim is also decorated with reeding, as are the handles which are attached to the main body with acanthus mouldings. The main body is engraved with an outer band of bright cut and prick dot engraving including arch work and stylised foliate motifs. The centre of the Tray is engraved with a shield shaped Armorial with tied ribbons and Crest above and crossed branches below. The Tray is in excellent condition and is very well marked on the reverse. Crouch and Hannam were specialist producers of Trays and Salvers of very fine quality. The Arms and Crest are those of Hodgson impaling Boyle for Robert Kirkman Hodgson DL, and magistrate, of Gardacre, co. Hants and his wife Lady Horara Janet Boyle, third daughter of Richard Edmund St. Lawrence Boyle, 9th Earl of Cork abd Orrery.
