The Canister has a rectangular, baluster, form and stands on four scroll feet, decorated with shells. The sides are chased with Rococo shells and scrolls, as well as raised floral and foliate garlands. The stepped, domed, pull-off, cover is chased with a band of matted shell details and pluming foliate motifs and flower heads. The cover also terminates in an unusual bud and leaf finial. The caddy is in quite excellent condition and is fully marked on the base and with the sterling mark on the cover. Pierre Gillois was obviously of Huguenot descent and Arthur Grimwade states in "London Goldsmith's 1697-1837", that he was a specialist Caddy and Sugar Box make of delicate Rococo flavour.
