The Counter Box is of cylindrical form, with a pull off cover, and solid base. The sides and cover are beautifully constructed of filigree work, decorated with tulip heads and daffodils, which were a popular decorative motif at this date, influenced by Charles II's time in exile in Holland, before his restoration to the English throne in 1660. The container is in quite excellent condition and, amazingly, contains forty four original circular filigree counters. The wheel shaped counters have a corded edge and are divided into panels, containing scroll work. It is most unusual to find a filigree counter case in such outstanding condition and also containing so many of its original counters. Another extremely rare seventeenth century piece.

Height of the case: 1.6 inches, 4cm.
Diameter of the case: 0.9 inches, 2.25 cm.
